Ben Hamption

Baseball Instructor

Ben played at West De Pere High School. He was named the Bay Conference Pitcher of the Year, tabbed the district Player of the Year, earned an All-state selection, and was named team MVP after leading West De Pere to state tournament as a junior. In 2019, he struck out 112 hitters in 58 innings and was selected as a 2019 Perfect Game Preseason Underclassmen All-America High Honorable Mention. In 2020, he was a Rawlings-Perfect Game Senior Preseason All-America High Honorable Mention. ranked as the No. 22 overall prospect in Wisconsin by Perfect Game.

Ben spent three years pitching at West Virginia University and made 41 starts out of 45 appearances on the mound. He put together a 4.62 ERA, was 17-11 on the mound and fanned 203 batters in 222 innings of work. WVU was 25-16 in games he pitched and 28-17 in games he appeared. Ben made four relief appearances as a freshman and held opponents scoreless in three - the Mountaineers were 3-1 in those games. He posted a career-high nine quality starts as a junior and is just one of 20 Mountaineers to reach 200 career strikeouts. The 90 strikeouts in 2022 were good for No. 8 in the Big 12. He also logged seven quality starts as a sophomore.
